Speech Contest

The NMA LEADERSHIP Speech Contest
On Wednesday March 17, 2010, The City of San Diego Chapter of the NMA is sponsoring the Leadership Speech Contest. The local contest is part of a national contest sponsored by NMA…THE Leadership Development Organization. The contest is open to any ninth through twelfth grade student in the San Diego area. The contest requires a four to six minute speech relating to Leadership. Topics such as Leadership in the world, its application to the free enterprise system and what Leadership means are some examples of speech themes. The primary purposes of the contest are:
To promote an understanding of Leadership among our nation’s high school students
To increase awareness of the important role Leadership plays in our society
To develop vital communication skills needed for succeeding in the world today

Chapter prizes are $150 for first place, $100 for second and $50 for third. The first prize winner is eligible to advance to the Council level where the contestants compete for a cash prize up to $350. Winners may then advance to the Area level (First prize is $1000 cash). The Area winners compete at the National Level for a prize of $4,000 cash.
