NOTE: We recommend that you show up no more than 2 hours in advance. The interview and hiring process can take 4 or more hours. If you are hired, drug screening, uniform fitting, scheduling for new employee orientation and Food service training will take place on this day.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have previous Food Service experience to apply.

Seeking friendly, cooperative, motivated and outgoing employees to work in a high volume, fast-paced Food Service Department. Candidates must be available to work any of the seven days of the week, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Work schedule will vary depending on operational needs. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to take directions effectively. Must have good mathematical and cash handling skills. Cash register experience and guest service training preferred. Must be willing to maintain and clean food service areas and equipment. This position requires standing for extended periods of time with periodic heavy lifting. These positions will last approximately until September 12, 2010 with opportunities for year-round employment.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Under supervision, prepares, serves and sells food items; maintains cleanliness of food service equipment and area; maintains food service stocks; and performs related work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS: A Food Service Clerk is assigned and responsible for one or more areas of food preparation, service, sales and maintenance. This class is distinguished from positions in the Merchandise Sales Clerk class in that the former handles food service and related areas as opposed to merchandise items.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Prepares and sells food items; operates food service equipment and machines; cleans and maintains food service equipment; maintains cleanliness of food preparation and food service areas; disinfects areas as required; keeps all necessary food items and supplies stocked; orders food items and supplies as necessary and maintains applicable inventories; takes orders and registers sales on cash register; makes change; opens and closes register at the start and end of each business day; assists newer personnel; and provides information to the public or directs to a knowledgeable source.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
General Knowledge of:

- Methods, materials and equipment used in food service

- Zoo facilities, rules and regulations

- Principles of public relations

Skills to:

- Operate food service equipment and machines

- Operate a cash register accurately and efficiently

- Understand and carry out instructions

- Communicate with the public tactfully and courteously

- Foresee needs and maintain stocks before depleted

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Training and/or experience which would demonstrate the knowledge and skills outlined above.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
May have exposure to environmental conditions where food is being cooked in quantity for long periods of time; may have exposure to varying weather conditions; ability to move about in assigned areas; ability to move moderate to heavy objects; and ability to work on slippery surfaces.

Digital Binder

WOOOO NO PHYSICAL BINDER IS REQUIRED!

... but blog will act as your digital binder. What you need to do is upload everything you have done to Google Docs and link to them so your senior adviser can check it. If you do not know how to do this fret not for there are steps and awesome pictures to help guide you through this. Like always I'll (Mr. Mike) will (thanks Sergio) answer any questions until I get tired of being nice.

Here is a list of what is needed in your portfolio.

First things first set up Google docs.

  1. Go to Google Docs
  1. Click the Create New drop down located in the upper left hand section under the Google Docs logo and then click on folder


  1. Right click on “New Folder” and then go to rename

  1. Type in Senior Exhibition and click OK

  1. Click the “Upload” button located next to the Create New drop down you clicked in step 2

  1. Leave everything like it is and click Destination folder on the bottom of the screen

  1. Click your newly made Senior Exhibition folder and then click OK.

  1. Click the select files to upload link in the light blue box

  1. Select all your files you need to upload and click the open button

  1. Click the link to go back to Google Docs

  1. Right click your essay

  1. Go down to Publish

  1. Click the Publish Document button

  1. Highlight and copy (CTRL + C) the new URL they give you


OH SNAP YOU ARE DONE IN GOOGLE DOCS! Well for now anyway, onward to your blog. Leave this window open though you will need it later.

1.      Log in to your blog

2.      Click the layout link

3.      Click the Add a Gadget link

4.      Scroll down in the list of gadgets till you get to Link List

5.      Fill out everything as shown in the picture below

6.      Continue to add the documents needed to your links. Repeat steps 11-13 in the Google Docs section.

7.      When you have everything uploaded and linked email your adviser with a link to your blog.

    EXTRA CREDIT BLOG POST!!!!!!

    For extra credit or if you were not working during class answer the following.

    Remember you are presenting to people that may not have read your essay, in at least 500 words what are the main points of your 5-7 minute presentation? How will these points help your panel understand your topic? What is your display board going have on it and how are you going to lay it out? How will your board explain what you can not cover in your presentation?

    Saturday School 5-15-2010

    The art classes from all the schools at SDHS have organized a student art show in Spanish Village. The work is on display in Gallery 21 in Spanish Village (Balboa Park) and will be open from 10 AM – 4 PM on the weekends and 11 AM – 4 PM on the weekdays. I will be supervising the gallery this Saturday from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM if students want to get Saturday school credit.
