PROM- URGENT

Spring & Prom Time High Intensity AVOID DUI Crackdown

Sobriety Checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols Planned

San Diego, CA – Law enforcement throughout the county will be combining resources and sending out a unified message this Prom Season. If you drive drunk, we will be looking for you. If you’re over the limit, you will be arrested. If you are underage and drinking before you get behind the wheel be prepared to have your night cut short.

The Avoid the 14 DUI task force will be staffing a DUI checkpoint in the City of San Diego this weekend and deploying additional DUI Saturation Patrols and checkpoints countywide targeting those who still don’t heed the message to designate a sober driver.

All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This DUI checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies. A major component of these checkpoints is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober designated drivers.

"DUI arrests can be embarrassing and expensive, but they're easy to prevent," said Officer McCullough. "If you're drinking, hand your keys over to a designated sober driver, or call a taxi or sober friend for a ride home. Don't risk an arrest ---or worse, a serious injury or even death."

Along with the impaired drivers, Avoid members at these checkpoints and saturation patrols will be looking for other violations that will impact all motorists, as this is the time of year we see an increase in the number of young adults on the road to their High School Proms. If you are, or have a young person attending a Prom this year, don’t forget California’s zero tolerance laws and make sure they have a safe and sober prom.
